About

My name is Britney “B” Calhoun (she/her) and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles, California. My educational career began at California State University Channel Islands where I received my Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Communication. After completing my undergraduate degree, I began to seek interest in a graduate career in psychology to better understand the connection between mental health and marginalized identities. From there, I began my graduate education at California Lutheran University and received my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I have worked in a variety of settings with many different individuals. I have provided direct care to children, adolescents, families, young adults, and older adults experiencing LGBTQ+ related issues, grief and loss, physical trauma or emotional pain, relationship issues, career challenges and important life transitions.

I want to acknowledge how hard it is to make the decision to begin therapy. I have worked with people from many different walks of life and understand that sometimes we get stuck and move out of alignment, resulting in feeling alone and unsure about where to start the journey of securing a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Regarding my theoretical framework, I have extensive training in psychodynamic and relational theories. However, I believe that there is no one-size-fits all approach to therapy. As a therapist with several marginalized identities, I am deeply rooted in creating safe and affirming spaces for people to feel supported and gain the tools they need to create a life they want to live.

As a mental health professional, I’ve been trained on the invaluable impact of individual intervention, but also community intervention. I apply my expertise and extensive training as a mental health professional to provide educational workshops.

My areas of consulting expertise include:

Mental health and mental wellness

Communication

Conflict resolution

Self-care

Burnout
